When meeting new people, handshakes are the most typical greeting in China. Generally, Chinese people shake hands when they greet guests or when they are introduced to others. Handshakes should be gentle and last only for a few seconds. 

Sometimes, Chinese people will hold your hand with two hands during a normal handshake to express warmth. Additionally, it is acceptable to bow slightly while shaking hands, if you are meeting someone older or with a higher title than you.

In general, Chinese people do not like to be touched. Do not touch any other part of their body to show how friendly you are. Remember to avoid hugging, back slapping, cheek kissing or putting an arm around their shoulder, especially between men and women.
